Abstract
In a multi-stage granulating method, each stage includes granulating prim. crumbs of material by spraying with a binding and solidifying liq. accompanied by a gas stream, followed by one or more fluidised bed cooling and drying zones, whose output is fed to the next stage. After passing through the necessary number of stages, the enlarged granules are given a final cooling/drying treatment. Any fine particles entrained are removed and returned to the spray bed zones. The binding liq. and the gas for the granulating and fluidising zones are supplied at increasing speeds as the stages progress. The final prod. is divided into three grades, with the medium sizes for direct use, the oversize for grinding, and the undersize for prim. crumbs, or in molten or dissolved form as the spraying liq. Esp. applicable to mixed fertilisers. The system has greater capacity than similar systems using parallel feed routes.
