Abstract

A porous article is placed in a vessel which is evacuated to withdraw air from the pores. The vacuum is released with the pores beneath the surface of a liq. impregnant in the vessel. Excess impregnant is removed from the vessel and the article is washed to remove impregnant from the surface The article is heated to effect curing of the impregnant within the pores. Method is used for the impregnation of metal castings with resins to seal porosity. Wood, brick, stone or concrete may also be treated. The material to be impregnated can be rotated to facilitate impregnation, draining and washing. The impregnation cycle is fast, simple and automatic. Air locks and impregnant entrapment is reduced by rotation of the material. There is effective draining between cycles.
