Abstract

The vacuum flask has inner and outer walls both permeable to solar radiation and enclosing a space under vacuum, and a protective jacket with at least one part which can be opened. The openable part has a reflective inner surface to deflect solar radiation onto the vessel to heat the contents when swung open. The jacket pref. has two parts which can be swung open about respective axes and which are symmetrical about a plane containing the flask longitudinal axis, to form a parabolic reflector surface when open. Radiation is collected in the vessel core zone where an absorber may be located, e.g. a metal tube with black outer surface. The flask can be used when camping etc.
