Abstract

A new process for prodn. of feedstuffs (esp. feed concentrates) from structural proteins (scleroproteins) by hydrolysis with 10-40 wt.% H2SO4 between 80 degrees C and reflux temp., (a) the hydrolysis is carried out at atmospheric pressure; (b) the soln. or colloidal soln. contg. the hydrolysis prod. is then neutralised and freed from the resulting salt; and (c) if desired the hydrolysate is sepd. from the soln. Prodn. of feed prods. from scleroprotein-contg. materials such as animal hair, hooves, feathers, fish-scales, skin etc. accumulating as waste prods. in abattoirs, poultry and fish processing plants, and leather factories, and in the processing of pelts and wool is possible. Simple process proceeds under mild conditions, to give a digestable protein prod.
