Abstract

Improvements to a heat exchanger ensure that there are no leaks which might result in a mixing of the two fluids. The addn. described is an elastic joint comprising two rings inserted between the cups the rings being slightly squeezed between the cups to produce a seal. The rings include channels which open through a radial groove to the outside of the joint. The seals may be incorporated in exchangers in systems where it is important to avoid all communication between the two circuits e.g. when the two circuits are respectively a closed central heating circuit and an open hot water circuit. The fluid in the central heating circuit may contain additives and be contaminated by prolonged circulation in the radiators while the second circuit must be maintained in a pure state.
