Abstract
Rechargeable lead-acid battery, consisting of a container with a number of cells, and a number of elements that are placed in the cells, and consist of a number of positive and negative plates with inter. spacers, is mfd. by (a) contacting the plates with a forming electrolyte while a current is passed, (b) removing the electrolyte from the battery, (c) contacting the plates with a developing electrolyte for increasing the s.g. of the electrolyte residue in the elements, (d) strongly discharging the plates, (e) reducing the amt. of electrolyte retained by the satd. elements, between 10 vol. % of the total possible electrolyte amount, and the amt. of electrolyte retained by the satd. elements, the amt. sulphate resulting from step (d), together with the residual amt. of sulphuric acid, giving an electrolyte with the desired s.g. after the addn. of water and charging, and (e) sealing the battery. The prod. can be activated after storage by the addn. of water and charging. Can be stored for long periods; and has low transportation costs as a result of the absence of electrolyte.
