1471496 Separating air LENINGRAD TEKHNOLOGICH INST KHOLODIL PROMYSHLEN 21 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 16323/75 Heading F4P An air separation process comprises removing dust from the feed air at 1, compressing it to 180-200 kgl./cm.<SP>2</SP> at 2, removing CO 2 and acetylene at 5 and drying the air to give it a dew point of - 60‹ to - 70‹ C., cooling a part of the dried air at 7 to below the saturation point to partially condense it, the other part being expanded at 6, and then recombining the parts before passing them to a preliminary rectification column 8 to produce liquefied N 2 from condenser 9 and an O 2 -enriched liquefied air bottoms, and supercooling the liquefied N 2 and bottoms at 11 before subjecting them to secondary rectification in column 12 to produce a gaseous N 2 overhead containing less than 0À3 vol. per cent O 2 and Argon impurities, a gaseous O 2 -A mixture, and a liquefied O 2 -A mixture which is used to liquefy the N 2 in condenser 9 and which contains up to 4À5 vol. per cent Argon, the gaseous O 2 -A mixture being then subjected to further rectification in column 13 to produce an argon fraction from condenser 14 which has 0À1-3À0 vol. per cent O 2 and less than 0À1 vol. per cent N 2 therein, and an O 2 fraction from the intertube space of condenser 10 of 99À7 to 99À99% purity.
