Abstract
In the electrolytic refining and the electrochemical winning of metals, non-metallic raw materials, cpds. and alloys, the process operates continuously. A single continuous cathode is pref. employed, consisting of a thin plate made of the same metal as that being obtd. or from another electrically conducting material, the cathode travelling through the cell and acquiring a deposit. The anodes may consist of continuous strip or individual pieces travelling in the opposite direction to the cathode. Anodes which are insol. in the electrolyte may also be employed. Used e.g. for reclaiming the metals in scrap accumulators, or the winning of (sub)oxides.
