A cell uses vertical cathodes and insol. anodes alternating along the length of the bath, with linen anode-boxes acting as diaphragms round each anode. This improved cell incorporates equipment for recovering the Cl evolved; for extg. the steam produced at the bath surface; for blowing gas into the bottom of the bath underneath each cathode; and for the precise location of cathodes anodes and anode-bags. On top of each anode is a sealed, inverted U-channel which is linked to a gutter running along the entire bath; this gutter is used to extract the Cl and a parallel box-channel is used to extract the steam. Machined fixtures, guide-rails and locating pegs are used to ensure accurate location of the electrodes.
