Abstract

1460357 Diaphragm cells KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 17 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 16858/74 Heading C7B A multiple vertical diaphragm cell 1 for brine electrolysis, having alternate anode and cathode chambers 2, 3 separated by asbestos diaphragms 4 and defined by anodes 5 and cathodes 6, includes for each electrode a stack of gas bubble guideplates 7a spaced vertically apart and inclined to the vertical with the lower end of each plate on or adjacent the respective electrode whereby gas bubbles released from the electrodes are guided by the plates upwardly away from the electrode into and up a vertical gas bubble passageway 8 between pairs of stacks disposed between pairs of electrodes. The plates 7a may be of chlorinated PVC or the same material as the electrodes. Graphite or stainless steel plate anodes 5 and mild steel wire net cathodes 6 may be used. The guide-plates 7 may have a plane or curved surface. The electrodes may be bored with holes Fig. 3 (not shown).
