1410506 A substituted 14-dexosymutilin SANDOZ Ltd 2 Oct 1972 [5 Oct 1971 25 May 1971] 16338/75 Divided out of 1410505 Heading C2C The invention comprises 14-desoxy-14-[(2- diethylaminoethyl) mercaptoacetoxy] mutilin which may be prepared by reaction of 2-diethylamino ethanethiol hydrochloride with 14- desoxy-14-tosyloxyacetoxymutilin in ethylmethylketone in the presence of sodium ethoxide. The hydrochloride and diethylmethylammonium salts may be prepared by reacting the full compound with methanolic HCl or methyliodide respectively. Pharmaceutical compositions having antimicrobial activity and prophylactic activity comprise 14 - desoxy - 14 - [(2 - diethylaminoethyl)mercaptoacetoxy]mutilin with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. 1. 14-Desoxy-14- [ (2-diethylaminoethyl) mercapto-acetoxy]mutilin.
2. The compound of formula I, in free base form.
3. The compound of Claim 1, in the form of an acid addition salt.
4. The compound of Claim 1, in the form of a quaternar salt.
5. The compound of Claim 1, in the form of the hydrochloride salt.
6. The compound of Claim 1, in a fumaric acid addition salt form.
7. The compound of formula I, in the form of the hydrogen fumarate salt.
8. The compound of Claim 1, in the form of the diethylmethyl ammonium iodide salt.
9. A pharmaceutical composition comprising 14-desoxy-14- [ (2-diethylaminoethyl )mercaptoacetoxy]mutilin, in free base or in pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt or quaternary salt form, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent.
10. A pharmaceutical composition according to Claim 9, substantially as herein described. 3700/HU/RH
