Claims (15)

1. A method of forming an electrical connection between a ribbon-conductor and a metal connector plate having a slot opening into an edge of the plate, in which method an elongate staffer member of less width than the conductor is applied along one face of the ribbon-conducto to cause the conductor to be forced into the slot through the open end of the slot with the ribbon-conductor extending perpendicularly to the terminal plate and to the direction of insertion and the ribbon-conductor to be folded longitudinally about the stuffer member during the insertion of the stufferjaemher into the slot, the slot being dimensioned so that the ribbon-conductor is compressed between the stuffer member and opposite longitudinal edges of the slot to produce a permanent electrical connection between the ribbon-conductor and the connector plate.
2. A method of forming an electrical connection according to claim 1, in which a portion of the ribbon-conductor is extruded behind the stuffer member during insertion.
3. A method of forming an electrical connection according to claim 1 or 2, in which the ribbon-conductor is formed to channel-shape prior to the application of the stuffer member and the stuffer member is applied to the base of the channel.
4. * A method of forming an electrical connection according to any one of claims 1 to 3, in which the ribbon-conductor is surrounded by an insulating sheath which is pierced by the edges of the slot during insertion.
5. A method of forming an electrical connection according to any one of claims 1-3 , in which the ribbon-conductor is insulated and the insulation is then removed only from the face of the conductor opposite to that to which the stuffer member 43628/3

A method of forming an electrical connection according to any one of claims 1-3, in which a portion of the ribbon-conductor having Insulation at least on tha surface to which the stuffer is applied is forced by the stuffer into the slot of a further and similar plate the slot of which is aligned with the first plate.
7. A method of forming an electrical connection according to any one of claims 1-6 , in which the stuffer member is initially cut from a strip of such stuffer members and subsequently bonded to a plastics tape which is used to feed the strip to the metal connector plate.
8. A connection when made by the method of an one of claims 1-7.
9. An electrical connection between a ribbons-conductor and a metal connector plate having a slot opening into an edge of the plate, the ribbon-conductor extending perpendicularly to tie slot and being compressed against opposite longitudinal edges of he slot by a stuffer member positioned centrally of the width of the slot, portions of the ribbon conductor having been deformed from between the stuffer member and the said edges lengthwise of the slot to locations between the stuf er member and the base of the slot and between the stuffer member and the mouth of the slot.
10. An electrical connection according to Claim 9,. in which the stuffer member is of rectangular cross-section having two sides parallel to the edges of th slot, the edges of the stuf er member nearest the base being chamfered. 43628/2
11. An electrical connection according to claim 10, i which the staffer member is surrounded by Insulating material.
12. An electrical connection according to an one of claims 9 to 11, in which a further portion of the ribbon-conductor is retains d in a slot of a urther and similar plate aligned with the first mentioned plate by the stuff r member which has an enlarged portion between the two plates. -
13. An electrica connection substantiall as described with reference to and as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings.
14. An electrical connection substantially as described with reference to and as shown in Figure 8 of the drawings.
15. An electrical connection substantially as described with reference to and as shown in Figure 8A of the drawings. 16· An electrical connection substantially as described with reference to and as shown in Figures 19 and 20 of the drawings.
