Abstract

1435228 Disinfection in two stages W HURKA 10 Aug 1973 [24 April 1972] 38003/73 Heading ASE A two stage method for disinfecting human or animal skin or an object to be used in a sterile state, comprises first applying a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant B), which has a longlasting remanent disinfecting action, and, subsequently and prior to use, a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant A), which is either volatile or free from active residue, which decomposes into volatile decomposition products, leaves behind a neutral residue, or decomposes on the skin into volatile products compatible with the skin, the application if disinfectant A additionally removing any remanent disinfectant B. Disinfectant A may be an alcohol, an iodophor, diethyl pyrocarbonate, a peroxy compound, propiolactone, sodium or potassium dichromate, glutaraldehyde, a hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, chloramine-T or iodine; and disinfectant B may be a salt of a quaternary ammonium base, a chlorhexidine salt N-(2-[2dodecylaminoethyl)amino] ethyl) glycine, N-hexadodecylglycine, 3, 5-bis(((2-[(2-dodecylaminoethyl)amino] ethyl)-amino)methyl) salicyclic acid, N-(2[(2- octylaminoethyl) amino] ethyl) glycine, N-(3- dodecylaminopropyl)-#-aminobutyric acid or N-(3-dodecyloxypropyl)-#-aminobutyric acid. Disinfectants A and B may be used as solutions or as impregnated towels (from sealed bags made of aluminium foil). The method may be applied to cows' udders, hands surgical instruments, bottles and foodstuff machinery. [GB1435228A]

What I Claim is: I ·
1. A two-stage method for disinfecting human or animal skin or object to be used in a sterile state, comprising separately applying a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant A), which is either vola tile or free from residue, which decomposes into volatile decomposition products, leaves behind a neutral residue, or is subjected on the skin to a metabolism which is beneficial to the skin, and a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant B), which has a longlasting remanent disinfecting action, disinfectant. A being applied before use.
2. A method according to Claim 1, in which lodophors in the concentration of 0.02% or diethyl pyrocarbonate in a concentration of 30-200 ppm are used as disinfectant A.
3. A method according to Claim 1, in which the following substances are used as disinfectant B:- (a) Salts of quaternary ammonium bases in a concentration of 0.02% to 0.5%, for example: Dodecyldimethyldichlorobenzylammonium chloride, dodecyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, tetradecyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, dodecyldimethylethylbenzylammonium chloride, although other salts, particularly the gluconates, lactates or cyclamates, of these quaternary ammonium bases can also be used. (b) A chlorohexidine salt, for example: 1,1'-hexamethylene-bis- 5-(p-chlorophenyl- biguanide)~J, particularly the digluconate and the dilactate thereof. 4. A method according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which a paper or non-woven fabric towel is impregnated with disinfectant A in solution form, and then sealed in an aluminium bag. 5. A method according to Claim 1 or Claim 3, in which a paper or non-woven fabric towel is impregnated with disinfectant B in solution form, and then sealed in an aluminium bag. 6. A method of disinfection substantially as described in any one of examples 1 to 5. Dated this 10th day of August, 1973. (SIGNED) PAGE, WHITE & FARRER.
