Claims (4)
1. A process of preparing polyfuran foams by polymerising, alternatively copolymerizing furfuryl alcoho if desired in combination with prepolymers, alternatively precopolyiners of furfuryl alcohol in the presence of a •strong acid in the liquid state, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n using a starting material in which at least 50%' of th hydroxy groups present in the furfuryl alcohol prepolymer mixture originate from the free furfuryl alcohol, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an acidic compound or a mixture of acidic compounds having a pKa value in water from 1.to 4, if desired dispersed uniformly in mono- or- polyalcohols , including polyether- polyalcohols, that do not polymerize in the presence of the acidic compound used, alternatively an acidic compound or a mixture of acidic compounds having a pKa value i • dispersed · · '·"· water of less than 1., dr4fl½54.-¾u4red- uniformly in said mono- · " or polyalcohols. . • . * · . • J
2. A process according to claim 1 , c h a r a c t e. r i n# using a starting material, in which at least 75% of t hydroxy groups present in the furfuryl alco'hol prepolymer mixture originate from free furfuryl alcohol. .
3. A process according to claim 1 or 2, · c h a r a c t e r i z e d' i n using a starting material containing at least 6% of an oxy-acid of phosphorus calculated on the total weight of the polymer and furfuryl alcohol used. · * - ·*'
