Abstract
On card DC-DC converters incorporate protection against interruption of input power supply by the use of a series diode and a reservoir capacitor. This has the major disadvantage that there is an excessive in-rush of current when the card is first plugged into its connector with the possibility of damage to the power carrying connector pins. This is particularly important in large voltage installations operated at 50 volts. The circuit of the invention provides a method of limiting the in-rush current without disturbing the interrupt protection. The arrangement comprises a parallel resistor/diode circuit (R1, D2) connected in series with the reservoir capacitor (C1). After connection to the input power supply the resistor (R1) allows the capacitor (C1) to charge up slowly. In the event of an interruption of the input power supply the charge in the capacitor (C1) is used through diode (D2) thereby by- passing resistor (R1). <IMAGE>
