Abstract
Description
The present invention provides a cooker of the type comprising a heat source and a number of appliances which make use of the heat and including a baffle arrangement for directing heat from the heat source to the different appliances as desired, the baffle arrangement comprising at least one baffle pivotally mounted at its upper edge above the heat source, and a control arrangement for the or each baffle, the baffle depending from its pivot point and being movable from a first heat deflection position to a second heat deflection position, so that heat may be 25 directed towards a first appliance, such as a water boiler, when the baffle is in its first deflection position, or may be diverted alternatively to a second appliance, such as an oven, when the baffle is in its second deflection position, the control arrangement for the or each baffle comprising a p pivot arm operable to move a baffle from the first * deflection position to the second deflection position, the pivot arm being located in front of the front edge of the
51 3 baffle and being pivotally mounted to the front of the cooker, the pivot arm having a finger projecting a short distance backwards into the cooker so as to be engageable with the baffle at a point intermediate its pivot point and the lower edge of the baffle, whereby to move the baffle between the first deflection position and the second deflection position, the pivot arm is pivoted about its pivot point so that the finger on the arm pushes the baffle towards the desired position.
Conveniently, the control arrangement for the baffle includes a stop so that the baffle can remain fixedly located in a deflected position.
Preferably, the or each baffle is made of ceramic material, thereby providing a baffle having a longer life and being less likely to distort than a steel baffle.
The invention will now be described more particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings which show, by wav of example only, one construction of cooker according to the invention. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cooker;
Figure 2 is a sectional front elevation of the cooker with the baffles omitted;
Figures 3a, are partial sectional front elevations on an *
3b, and 3c enlarged scale, with the baffles shown in position for the hot plate mode, the boiler mode and the oven mode respectively; and
Figure 4 is a sectional plan view.
Referring initially to Figures 1 and 2, the cooker comprises an oven 1, hot plate 2, hot water boiler 3, and an oil fired burner 4 which directs heat directly upwards.
Referring now to Figures 3a, 3b and 3c, the cooker comprises an arrangement of baffles 5a, 5b for directing the hot air. In Figure 3a the two baffles 5a, 5b depend from their pivot points, and the heat goes directly upwards from the oil fired burner 4 to the hot plate 2 as indicated by the arrows. In Figure 3b, the left hand baffle 5a is in the deflected position, which deflects hot air to the hot water boiler 3. In Figure 3c, the right hand 5b baffle is in the deflected position which deflects hot air to the oven 1. *
Still referring to Figures 3a, 3b and 3c, the baffle control apparatus will now be described. The arrangement comprises for each baffle 5a,5b a pivot arm 6a,6b for moving the baffle. The pivot arm 6a,6b is located directly ! in front of the front edge of the baffle 5a, 5b, and is pivotally mounted to the front of the cooker, and has a finger 7a,7b projecting a short distance backwards into the cooker so as to be engageable against the face of the baffle 5a,5b. To move the baffle 5a,5b to the deflected
0 position, a crankhandle (not shown) is engaged in a socket
8a,8b in the pivot arm 6a,6b and accessible from the front of the cooker. The arm 6a,6b is pivoted about its pivot point so that the finger 7a,7b on the arm 6a,6b pushes the 15 baffle 5a,5b ahead of it from the suspended position to the deflected position. The finger 7a,7b swings downwardly past the bottom dead centre position and on upwardly until 9Q eventually it engages a stop 9a,9b on the face of the baffle 5a,5b. The stop 9a,9b (omitted from Figure 4 for clarity) is so positioned on the baffle 5a,5b that the arm 6a, 6b must swing through the orientation perpendicular to the baffle 5a,5b, (indicated by line Ά-Α in Figure 3a and line 3-3 in Figure 3b) and onwards into positive locking engagement with the stop 9a,9b. The location of the stop
9a,9b ensures that the baffle 5a,5b remains fixedly located ' in the deflected position.
The baffles 5a,5b are made of ceramic materials held on steel frames (not shown.) Ceramic baffles have a longer life and are less likely to distort than steel baffles.
Claims (4)
1 . A cooker of the type comprising a heat source and a number of appliances which make use of the heat and including a baffle arrangement for directing heat from the heat source to the different appliances as desired, the baffle arrangement comprising at least one baffle pivotally mounted at its upper edge above the heat source, and. a control arrangement for the or each baffle, the baffle depending from its pivot point and being movable from a first heat deflection position to a second heat deflection position, so that heat may be directed towards a first appliance, such as a water boiler, when the baffle is in its first deflection position, or may be diverted alternatively to a second appliance, such as an oven, when the baffle is in its second deflection position, the control arrangement for the or each baffle comprising a pivot arm operable to move a baffle from the first deflection position to the second deflection position, the pivot arm being located in front of the front edge of the baffle and being pivotally mounted to the front of the cooker, the pivot arm having a finger projecting a short distance backwards into the cooker so as to be engageable with the baffle at a point intermediate its pivot point and the lower edge of the baffle, whereby to move the baffle between the first deflection position and the second deflection position, the pivot arm is pivoted about its P pivot point so that the finger on the arm pushes the baffle towards the desired position. <
2. A cooker as claimed in Claim 1, in which the control arrangement for the baffle includes a stop so that the baffle can remain fixedly located in a deflected position.
3. Ά cooker as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the or each baffle is made of ceramic material, thereby providing a baffle having a longer life and being less likely to distort than a steel baffle.
4. A cooker as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
