Abstract
1473456 Heat or mass exchange packings SULZER BROS Ltd 9 June 1975 [9 July 1974] 24653/75 Heading BIR [Also in Divisions Dl and F4] A packing layer for a heat exchanger or mass exchange device is formed from a textile sheet structure incorporating both multifilament yarns and plastics monofilament yarns which are thicker than the multifilament yarns, the layer having a non-planar configuration maintained by the stiffness of at leastsome of the plastics yarns. The sheet may be woven or knitted from yarns in different proportions or configurations and the configuration is achieved by permanent deformation of the plastics yarns by a heat treatment. The yarns may be of the same, or different plastics material, or the thin multifilament yarns may comprise glass, natural or asbestos fibres. The deformation may be of corrugated form e.g. zig-zag folds. A packing using the layers may have adjacent layers arranged with their corrugations at an angle relative to 'one another.
