Abstract

781,194. Gas filters. WILLIAMS, R. H. E. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 2, 1954 ; Feb. 8, 1955], Nos. 31682/54 and 3761/55. Class 8(2). A gas filter comprises a substantially selfsupporting corrugated sheet of woven fabric 10, Fig. 2, including yarns of thermoplastic material e.g., nylon and the edges of the corrugated element are embedded in a cast plastic frame 9 surrounded by a channelled metal frame 11. The pleats may be held in position by spaced aluminium strips 12 bonded to the crests and embedded in the plastic frame 9. Alternatively plastic covered rods may be bonded to the crests or expanded metal may be secured to both sides of the pleated fabric. In a still further modification the pleats are held apart by comb-like members 23, Fig. 8. To effect corrugation the fabric 10 is pressed over fins 17, Fig. 6, of a jig 16 which is then heated to above the softening temperature of the yarn. Two layers of woven polyethylene or polyamide fibres may be separated by a thin layer of felted fibres.
