Abstract

Novel furyl urea compounds which are valuable medicaments for the treatment of hypertension in warm-blooded animals are prepared. Some of these compounds furthermore exert a retarding action on plant growth. The furyl compounds have the formula (I) <IMAGE> wherein R1, R2 and R3 denote an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms of R1+R2+R3 does not exceed six and that not more than one R1, R2 or R3 denotes alkynyl. Two of the radicals R1, R2 and R3 can together form the supplementary moiety of a cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl group. X represents a methylene group which is optionally substituted by methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl and R4 is hydrogen or methyl, but X represents methylene if R4 is methyl. The invention also includes the sodium, potassium and calcium salts of those compounds of the formula (I) in which X is a methylene group optionally substituted by methyl or ethyl.
