Abstract

1470405 Quaternary eutectic salt mixture PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 17 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 31666/74 Heading C4X A LiF-containing salt mixture which has a eutectic melting point of 449Œ0À5‹ C. and consists of 44Œ0À5 mol per cent of LiF, 40Œ0À5 mol per cent of KF, 12Œ0À5 mol per cent of NaF and 4Œ0À5 mol per cent of MgF 2 may be produced by preparing a salt mixture consisting of 44 mol per cent Œ2mol per cent of LiF, 12 mol per cent Œ1 mol per cent of NaF, 40 mol per cent Œ 2 mol per cent of KF and 4 mol per cent Œ 1 mol per cent of MgF 2 , repeatedly melting it and slowly cooling it until melting below 450‹ C. results in a clear melt which is decanted from any residue which has not melted at this temperature. The salt mixture may be used as a heat storage material or as a heat transfer material, e.g. in solar power plants, in storage heaters, in nuclear reactors and in salt baths for heat treatment.
