Abstract

1505141 Shoes S RYDBERG 27 Feb 1975 [27 Feb 1974 25 Sept 1974] 8153/75 Heading A3B An anti-slip device for attachment to a shoe comprises a protrusion 2 connected by an upwardly diverging flange Ting 4, preferably of rubber, to a sole or heel &c. 6 provided with a hollow portion 7, the protrusion 2 having an element 1 bonded or vulcanised to it above its convex surface-contacting extremity such that when slipping occurs on a surface, e.g. ice, packed snow, wet rocks etc., the extremity pivots to engage the lower edges 3 of element 1 with the surface. The flange ring 4 is thinner on one side for preferential direction of pivoting of protrusion 2 and on its thicker side has extensions 5 directed towards hollow portion 7 which limit the pivoting angle. The element 1 is of metal and the surface-contacting extremity of protrusion 2 preferably incorporates pieces of material which increase friction to initiate pivoting. The element 1 may comprise various shapes, viz. a ring having a concave cross-section, Fig. 1; a cylindrical cross-section having outwardly directed end flanges (3) and an inwardly pointing flange (8) in the upper portion (Fig. 2. not shown); a strip bent into a ring with at least one end (9) bent inwardly towards the centre of the ring (Fig. 3, 4, not shown); a frusto-conical plate 11, Fig. 5, having downwardly projecting teeth 10 extending outwardly from protrusion 2 which may have a concave recess (12) on its surface erigaging portion to act as a suction cup on wet surfaces (Fig. 6, not shown), or a number of concave recesses (13) (Figs. 7a and b not shown); a circular plate 14, Fig. 8, provided with a central upwardly projecting pin 15 which extends through a central hole in protrusion 2 and held by a tab 16, bonded in protrusion 2, having resilient fingers which bear against pin 15, or a tab 16 not bonded to the protrusion 2. Fig. 9, there being a metal flange 17 which protrudes beyond the edge of plate 14. [GB1505141A]
