Description

Oct. 21, 1930. J. E. BLINC'OW 1,779,354
ANTISPLASH DEVICE FOR BOOTS, SHOES, AND THE LIKE Filed Jan. 18, 1929 1 )Nvd/rop Mum Patented Oct. 21, 1930 UNITED STATES 'TOSEPH EDWARD IBIiINCOW, F WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND ANTISPLASH DEVICE FOR BOOTS, SHOES, AND THE LIKE Application filed January 18, 1929, Serial Ko. 338,284, and in Great Britain February 17, 1928.
The present invention relates to an antisplash device and more particularly to a device for preventing splashing on the footwear and clothing of a person when walking during wet weather.
The present invention consists of a guard which is adapted tobe detachably secured around the heel of a boot. shoe, slipper or the like, this guard being shaped according to the contour of the heel of the boot and consisting of an upstanding portion which is formed as a continuous band around the periphery of the heel with its lower edge ad'- jacent the base of the heel and a portion depending, therefrom and at an angle thereto extending around the sides and bacl: of the heel. the outer end of this depending portion being slightly above the base of the upstanding portion.
It will thus be seen that an outwardly and downwardly inclined rim is provided the under surface of which is adapted to receive. splashes caused by the contact of a heel of a boot or other footwear with mud or water on the ground, thereby checking any upward movement of the splashes.
The guard may be made of any suitable material but is preferably made of rubber in numerous colours similar to the colours of boots and shoes. The complete guard may be made of resilient material or alternatively, that portion of the guard which is pro vided with the outwardly and ('lownwardly inclined rim is of comparatively stiff material whilst the transverse strip passing across the inner face of the heel of theboot is of' elastic material so that the guard may readily be fitted to and removed from the heel of a boot or shoe.
The downwardly depending member may be arcuate in shape or alternatively it maybe of triangular cross section i. e. thicker at the top than at the extreme outer and lower edge. v
The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is an end elevation of one form of construction.
Figure 2 is a corresponding plan view.
Figure 3 is a corresponding inverted plan view.
Figure 4 is a side view of a shoe fitted with a device according to this invention.
Figure 5 A A of Figure 2.
In the construction as illustrated in the drawings, the upstanding portion 1 is formed as a continuous band adapted to encircle the may be severed across the portion 3 and providedwith a stud, clip or other fastening means.
For this purpose, the part 3 may be provided with overlapping portions if necessary acording to the fastening means adopted.
It will be obvious that by reason of its resiliency or by reason of the resiliency of a portion of the guard. this may be fitted to shoes of slightly varying size.
I declare that what I claim is An anti-splash device for footwear consistingof a guard formed of a tubular upstanding portion adapted to completely encircle the heel of the footwear and having its lower edge adapted to lie flush with the base of said heel, a solid triangular portion formed integrally with said tubular portion and situated externally thereof and formed partially only. around the periphery of said tubular portion, and a rim extending downwardly and outwardly from said solid triangular sectioned portion, the inclination of said rim being similar to the inclination of the outer ends of said triangular portion and having its lower edge always above the lower edge of the tubular portion.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name this 4th day of January. 1929.
JOSEPH EDWARD BLINCOW.
