Abstract

1458751 Hydrodesulphurization of heavy oils UOP Inc 29 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 18605/74 Heading C5E Asphaltene - containing hydrocarbonaceous oils are desulphurized by reacting with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst comprising alumina, a sulphided Group VIb component and a sulphided Group VIII component and having a catalyst particle density of 1-05 to 1 30 g./c.c. The catalysts used in examples can contain 2 wt. per cent Co and 8 wt. per cent Mo and can be prepared from a hydrosol having an Al/Cl ratio of 1 09 to 1 27 by forming spheres by the oil drop method, drying, calcining, impregnating, reducing and sulphiding.
