Abstract

1429715 Sealing cable joints PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd 8 April 1974 [11 April 1973] 17419/73 Heading H2E A preformed end cap for use in conjunction with a cylindrical metal casing to enclose a cable joint, comprises a cylindrical portion 10 for mating with the casing, a deformable frustoconical portion 14 having axial slots 16 defining flexible petals 18 for embracing the cable and an unslotted intermediate portion 12 extending from the portion 10 towards the axis to merge with the portion 14. Plumb wipes or a tie may be used to effect a connection between the petals and the cable sheath; a vent 20 allows the escape of air when an insulating filler is used to fill the joint. Figs. 3, 4 and 5-7 (not shown) illustrate respectively caps with one and two slotted frusto-conical portions projecting inwardly within the intermediate portion 12. Protuberances (22) may be on the cylindrical portion 10 as anchor points for a mesh sock holding a foam filling. [GB1429715A]
