1408255 Hydrogen; oxygen EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY 7 Feb 1974 [12 March 1973] 05651/74 Heading C1A A process for the preparation of hydrogen and oxygen from water comprises (a) reacting manganese dichloride and water vapour to form hydrochloric acid, manganese oxide and hydrogen, (b) reacting the manganese oxide so formed with hydrochloric acid in aqueous solution to form manganese dichloride and man- 'ganese dioxide and (c) decomposing the manganese dioxide to form manganese tetroxide and oxygen, wherein the manganese dichloride and manganese tetroxide from steps (b) and (c) are recycled to steps (a) and (b) respectively. Part or all of the heat required by steps (a), (b) and (c) may be supplied from a nuclear reactor. [GB1408255A]
