Abstract
1407206 Road levelling machine KLARCRETE LTD 21 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 44181/71 Heading EIG [Also in Division B4] A road levelling machine for breaking away irregularities in a road surface includes a power propelled chassis 10 mounting a power driven hammer unit 17 (Div. B4) for imparting blows to the road surface and a sensor 19 or 20 on the chassis which detects height irregularities in the road surface and regulates the speed of the chassis in response thereto. The leading sensor 19 may operate to switch off the hammer unit in the absence of any irregularities. The hammer unit includes a plurality of hammers arranged transversely of the machines' direction of travel and mounted on a carriage 13 which is reciprocated on rails 14 transversely of said direotion of travel, the carriage 13 being adjustable in height on rails 46. The sensors 19, 20 detect variations in the distance from the chassis 10 to the road surface and comprise pivotal levers each having one 'end engaging the road and the other end engagable with switches in a pneumatic control circuit. Compressed air is blown through the lower end of each hammer to blow away dust.
