Antiinflammatory substd benzothiazines Title cpds of formula (I) (where X is H, halogen, OH, NO2, NH2, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsylphonyl alkanoylamino or mono-or dialkyl- amino (alkyl is not >8C) Y is O,S, CH2, (CH2)2, SO, SO2 or a direct bond, R is not >8C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or is not >10C aryl or aralkyl, Z is in which R is as above and R' is H, vinyl alkyl, phenyl, pyridyl, furyl, naphthyl, thienyl, X-substd phenl, alkylene-dioxy phenyl, is not >8C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or is not >10C aralkyl, Ar is mono- or bicyclic aryl, 'alkylene' is a is not 6C hydrocarbon chain, and B is a basic N-contng residue) and their acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts are claimed. Cpds (I) where Z is CO are prepd by reacting a cpd. (II) with RMgHal and reacting the resulting cpd. (III) with aqs. NH4Cl (R-Li may be used instead of RMgHal.
