Abstract

1,255,721. Ribbon spools. WALTER GRAFTON & SON Ltd. 3 June, 1970 [13 June, 1969], No. 30042/69. Heading B8M. [Also in Division B6] A spool for a business machine e.g. a typewriter, adding machine, computer, is furnished with a prong 6 moulded integrally with the spool hub 1 and extending circumferentially over a portion of the hub to provide a gap between the hub and prong, and with a projection 9 moulded integrally with the hub and extending therefrom in the gap to limit deformation of the prong under the stress of a ribbon wound on the spool, the prong 6 being shaped to permit attachment of the ribbon to be wound on the spool. The prong 6 may be provided on a flat portion 5 formed in the hub surface or may project from a shoulder on the hub and shaped to form a continuation of the hub surface. The prong may also be provided with barbs. In a preferred embodiment, two prongs 6 are provided on the hub, which prongs face in opposite directions. The two prongs may be separate or mounted on a pedestal projecting from the hub surface. The spool is preferably made from thermoplastic material. [GB1255721A]
