Abstract

1,176,772. Preventing erosion. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 24 April, 1968, No. 19375/68. Heading E1H. Artificial seaweed comprises a plurality of elongated flexible elements 10 of synthetic thermo-plastic material having a density less than water, the elements lying parallel and each having one end interwoven with other elements 11 (which may be of the same material) to form a fabric strip to which anchoring means 12 are secured to maintain the elements 10 near the bottom of a body of water. The elements 10, 11 may be made of foamed and then stretched polypropylene sheet. The fabric strip may be formed into a tunnel into which is inserted the anchoring means 12, which may be metal bars, chains or cables, or concrete cast in situ. [GB1176772A]
