Abstract

Artificial seaweed consists of a number of elongated, flexible synthetic thermoplastic elements capable of floating in water, whose ends are woven together from thread-formed elements to form a woven strip, to which anchoring elements are fixed for maintaining the elements near the bottom of a body of water. The artificial seaweed is used for the prevention of coastal erosion. The anchoring elements are placed on the sea bed, so that the elongated elements, which tend to float, can assume a vertical position in the water. This arrangement reduces the flow of water, and promotes deposition of sand.
