Abstract
1,242,284. Reciprocating pumps. BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI A.S. Aug. 6, 1968 [Aug. 10, 1967], No.37553/68. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump for use with heavy fuel oil a space is provided between the housing and the pump cylinder through which heated fuel flows continuously to maintain the cylinder temperature particularly whilst the pump is inoperative. The pump cylinder 3 is supported by cylindrical guides 9 and 10; guide 10 extends into the cylinder bore and is threaded to a nut 13 against which the cylinder is pressed by a spring 2. Fuel circulated about the cylinder 3 in space 17 enters and leaves the housing via ports 20 and 18 respectively, and is introduced into the working space of the cylinder from space 17 by means of channels 22 and 23 in the nut 13 and guide 10 respectively, and a suction valve 21. Fuel is pumped from the cylinder 3 via a discharge channel 16 by a cam actuated plunger 1. The plunger edge 15 acts with ports 14 in the cylinder to determine the start of fuel injection, this timing is varied by axial displacement of the cylinder caused by rotation of the nut 13 by means of an adjustment screw 12. The plunger 1 has oblique control edges (not shown) which may interact with the ports 14 such that the delivery volume may be controlled by rotation of the plunger.
