Abstract

1,258,573. N-triphenylmethyl morpholines. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 3 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 16796/68. Heading C2C. Novel N-triphenylmethylmorpholines of Formula I in which R is chlorine, bromine, nitro or alkoxy, are prepared by reacting a corresponding substituted triphenylmethyl chloride or bromide with morpholine, or by reacting a complex of a corresponding substituted triphenylmethyl chloride and a Lewis acid, with morpholine. Substituted triphenylmethyl chloride-Lewis acid complexes are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II: with benzene in the presence of a Lewis acid, or; when the substituent is in the 4-position and is bromine, chlorine or alkoxy, by reacting diphenyldichloromethane with a substituted benzene C 6 H 5 R<SP>1</SP> (R<SP>1</SP> being Cl, Br or O-alkyl), in the presence of a Lewis acid. Molluscicidal compositions comprise a compound of Formula I together with a solid or liquid carrier and/or a surface-active agent.
