Abstract

1,204,438. Edible collagen tubes. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. 27 Sept., 1968 [27 Sept., 1967; 16 Sept., 1968], No. 46029/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] A mass of acid-swollen edible collagen fibrils, which may be plasticized, is extruded in the form of a tube which is inflated with a gas containing ammonia and is subsequently supported until the ammonia has neutralized the acid present and the tensile strength of the tube has increased, the tube then being washed and passed through a plasticizing bath if it was not already plasticized, prior to drying and shirring. The plasticizer may be glycerin and the acid lactic, acetic or hydrochloric. The tube may initially be surrounded by an ammonia-containing atmosphere. A collagen tube containing 10-20% of an edible plasticizer and 1-10% of an edible ammonium salt is claimed per se. [GB1204438A]
