Abstract
Producing steel in an oxygen converter using solid Fe-contg. material and liquid pis Fe consists of charging the solid material to the converter and heating to near but below its melting point using hydrocarbon fuel and oxygen blow through the bottom, tap and side nozzles. Just before liquid iron is charged to the converter, the solid material is subjected to an homogenisation treatment by blowing a mixture of neutral gas, oxygen and fuel in an amount of 1.5-6.0 kg fuel per mt solid' material through the bottom nozzles.
