Abstract

Polymeric material comprises a transparent polymer and an additive comprising at least one f-element cpd. (I) which absorbs the UV component of natural light and luminesces in the orange-red part of the spectrum. - Pref. (I) has the formula MXmYn-m.Lk where M = Eu, Sm, Tb, Dy or UO2; X and Y are Cl, NO3, benzoyl-benzoate, anthranilate, acetylacetone, benzoyl-acetone, dibenzoyl-methane, benzoyl-trifluoroacetone, thenoyl-trifluoro-acetone or hexafluoro-acetylacetone; L = (R)3P=O, (RO)3PO=O, R2S=O, or (I), (II) or (III) (where R = alkyl or aryl; n = 2 or 3; m = 0 or 1 and k = 0-3. Amt. of (I) present is pref. 0.001-5wt.%.
