Abstract

Arsenic cpds. are eliminated from water contaminated with arsenic by electrolysis between iron or aluminum electrodes at neutral pH, to form high surface area metal hydroxide pptes. which adsorb arsenic cpds. The gases generated in the process are trapped in the loose metal hydroxide pptes. which float to the surface and are easily filtered off. The final arsenic content of the water is less than 1% of the original, the water thus becomes fit for drinking.
