Abstract

Contaminated aqueous solutions, such as ground water and waste water from industrial plants such as paper mills, food processing plants and textile factories, can be easily cleaned, decolorized and disinfected in the improved, more economical, open layout electrolyzing cell according to the invention, in which the electrodes consist of several porous elements in electrical contact with each other. Cells can be divided or undivided and can be connected in a monopolar or bipolar arrangement. In the case of very narrow inter-electrode gaps, economical operation is guaranteed, especially when solutions with relatively low conductivity have to be handled. It can also be used to electrosynthesize novel cell chemicals, both organic and inorganic types of chemicals, such as hypochlorite bleaches and other oxygenated substances. HE
