Abstract

This invention refers to the discovery of a new system for the gas treatment of a liquid or liquid - solids mixture contained in a tank. An inverted trough fixed by suitable means at the desired position, usually very close to the free surface of the liquid. A suitable mechanism forces the inverted trough to perform the desired back and forth motions or/ and vibrations. The lower surface of the inverted trough and at least a part of the surface of its side walls may also have a system to transmit the motions of the inverted trough within the top layers of the liquid below the trough to increase turbulence there at the desired levels, as well as shearing forces by generating powerful agitation. The desired gas supply is channelled to the area below the inverted trough, where, due to strong agitation, the gas is dispersed into the liquid and the mixture of fine gas bubbles and liquid is forced to follow a predefined route under the oscillating or vibrating inverted trough, until the bubbles are released into the atmosphere. The contents of the tank are agitated forcefully by suitable means to be homogenized.
