Abstract
The vortex flotation cell comprises at least one hydrocyclone (10) or the like attached to the base of at least one vortex cylinder (13) mounted in the bottom of a reservoir (20), means of controlling pulp level therein, means (16) of entraining air with or without one or more chemical agents into said vortex cylinder (13) and means (14) for mixing the pulp and air and/or one or more chemical agents therein, said hydrocyclone (10) or the like being adapted, whilst allowing classification therein, by means (27) to maintain a vortex within said vortex cylinder (13), means (22) for providing circulation of pulp/air mixture between the reservoir (20) and said vortex cylinder (13), means (24, 22, 30) for removal of unwanted material whereby wanted material cannot short-circuit said removal means (24, 22, 30) and means (19) for washing the resultant froth as it leaves the reservoir (20).
