Abstract

The invention relates to a method for removing internal cores from castings after the solidification of the cast metal, the casting being placed on a rapping table and held there. A ram of an air hammer is then used to rap on a part of the wall of the casting with a predetermined striking or rapping energy until cracks form in the core and the core has broken into several parts. After rapping, the casting is conveyed to a vibrating table and there firmly clamped. On the vibrating table, the casting is subjected to vibration energy, with the result that abraded foundry sand trickles out of openings in the casting or fragments of foundry sand are broken down further by the vibration energy. After the casting has been emptied, it is carried away. A device for carrying out the method is characterised by a rapping table, above which an air hammer with a ram is arranged, and by a vibrating table with means for generating vibration energy and means for transmitting the vibration energy to a casting. <IMAGE>
