Abstract

he invention refers to an innovative type of artificial reef made of reinforced concrete, or other non-concrete material. The reef is installed on the sea bed and consists of a conical structure the side walls of which bear end-to-end openings and features support for a strong metal tube, the upper part of which protrudes over the reef, serving as an obstacle to fishing with towed instruments, whereas its lower part is vertically planted in the marine sediment. The invention aims to protect coastal marine areas from the use of illegal fishing instruments that are towed on the seafloor, thus serving as a protective artificial reef, as well as to autonomously add to the development of benthic biomas and bio-diversity, thus additionally serving as a productive artificial reef. End consequence of the latter effect is the development of new ecological slots, which finally results in the development of new food chains, characterised of high material and energy input and output.
