Abstract

This invention refers to machine-building, in particular to apparatus for laying of pipeline offshore in particular to the near vertical lying of pipeline offshore in deep water. Technical result of the invention is to reduce time during adding of new pipes and to increase efficiency of the apparatus. On the floating vessel 9 there is a tower 3 for pipe laying which bears against a support frame 1 and movable deck 3 at the desired angle. The tower has a travel block 4 for receiving a pipe section and for supporting the weight of the pipe or pipeline and is movable between open and closed positions. The travel block is adapted for movement along the length of the tower for raising or lowering the pipe and pipeline. A pedestal 5 is positioned near the bottom of the tower 3 and is movable between open and closed positions for receiving a pipe section and supporting the weight of the pipeline to transfer the weight of the pipeline from the travel block 4 to the pedestal 5 without the need to open the travel block 4. A strongback 7 with adjustable clams is used to grasp a pipe section ready for welding from a ready rack and transfer the pipe section into the tower 3 for addition of the pipe section to the pipeline. The strongback 7 is guided into and up the tower by rails. A stinger 8 extends down from the lower end of the tower and is provided with clamps 21 to grip the pipeline during operations. The main portion of the stinger may be pivoted up adjacent the lay vessel when pipe laying operations are not in progress. 12 fig.
