Abstract
999,924. Pipe couplings. H.B. ETABLISSEMENTS. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 16, 1961; Jan. 27, 1962; April 17, 1962], No. 43075/62. Heading F2G. In a fluid union the pipes to be joined, 9 and 10, are each held by a thin, dished split-washer 17 which co-operates with at least one annular seating member 13 so that when a screwed member 1<SP>1</SP> is initially tightened the washer 17 is elastically deformed so as to grip the pipe. The body 1 of the union is screwed internally to take the members 1<SP>1</SP> and overlaps both pipes 9 and 10. The washer assemblies are separated by a spacing sleeve 15 at either end of which a flexible sealing ring 14 seals the joint. In the assembly illustrated in Fig. 1, there are two washers 17 at each end of the sleeve. Alternatively, there may be a single split washer at each end of the sleeve arranged between a seating member 13 and a second seating member 20 which abuts against the washer both shaped as shown in Fig. 4. The washers 17 may have grooves or serrations to increase their grip on the pipes.
