999,818. Making magnetic heads. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 27, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 16205/62. Heading B3A. [Also in Division G5] A magnetic head comprising wound cubic ferrite cores 1, 2 is assembled at 3 and 5 by coating the abutting faces with Ti, V, Cr, Zr, A1 or Mg, inserting a thicker foil of Cu, Ag, Au, Ni or In and subjecting the joints to pressure and/or heat. Additional layers may be included. In a preferred method, the diamond-polished faces have 91.5 Š of A1 and 246 Š of Au successively vacuum deposited 6, the Au layers built up by electrodeposition to 13 Á 7 and a thin film of In placed between. The assembly is then heated in vacuum to melt the In and is allowed to cool therein; alternately the final joining may be achieved by cold welding.
