Articles on a rollerway 20 (Figs. 7 and 8), are driven by an endless belt 23, the pressure between the belt 23 and each article being dependent on the weight of the article. Article engaging rollers 3 fulcrumed on sleeves 31 actuate lever arms 32 carrying belt-engaging rollers 35. In modifications (Figs. 9-15, not shown), the arms 33 carry a plurality of rollers, and these entirely replace the load-supporting rollers 25 (in addition to acting as weightsensing rollers). In a further modification (Figs. 19 and 20), the lower arms 32 are replaced by lever arms 116 and 117 disposed at right angles to the direction of conveyance. Specification 912,499 is referred to.
