Abstract
The invention comprises 3,3-spiro-substituted - (6 or 7) - sulphamoyl - 3,4 -dihydro -1,2,4 - benzothiadiazine - 1,1 - dioxides in which, in the benzothiadiazine nucleus, each of the 5-, 6- and 7-positions is (apart from the sulphamoyl substituent) unsubstituted or carries a halogen, C1- 5 alkyl, C1- 5 alkoxy, C1- 5 halogenated alkyl, nitro or amino substituent, e.g. Cl, CF3, C2F5, CH3, NO2, C2H5, Br, CH3O or F, and in which the spiro group is cyclohexane having attached to the carbon atom in the 4-position one or more alkyl or cycloalkyl substituents of 1-6 carbon atoms; and their preparation by reacting an appropriate 2-sulphamoyl-aniline, bearing an additional sulphamoyl substituent in the 4- or 5-position with a 4-substituted cyclohexanone or its functional derivative such as a ketal and, when the product is nitro-substituted, if desired, reducing the nitro group to an amino group. 8 - Cyclohexyl - 1,4 - dioxaspiro[4,5]decane is made by condensing 4-cyclohexyl-cyclohexanone with ethylene glycol. 4 - Amino - 6 - pentafluoroethyl - 1,3 - benzene disulphonamide is made by nitrating pentafluoroethyl-benzene to m-pentafluoroethyl-nitrobenzene, reducing to m-pentafluoroethyl-aniline, chlorosulphonating and reacting the resulting sulphonyl chloride with ammonia. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 863,474 and 927,698.
