[Also in Division H5] In an electrically - heated coffee percolator or similar liquid container a thermoplastic body is attached to a metallic bottom by the formation on the edge of the metal of a socket into which the edge of the plastic is secured. As shown in Fig. 2, the bottom 8a, e.g. of stainless steel or aluminium, provides an annular seal and sealing cement or a glass fibre gasket 11a is used; a metal washer 23 has an upturned flange 24 to relieve stress on the plastic. The vessel has an additional base attached, e.g. by a screwed stud. Variations of this arrangement are illustrated in Figs. 1, 3, 5 and 6 (not shown). In Fig. 4 (not shown), a similar joint is formed in the wall of the vessel, the plastic being straight sided and the bottom curved up to meet it. In Fig. 7 the joint is sealed by deforming the metal at 110# into the plastic. It is stated that if any of the joints accidentally overheat the plastic may soften, but the liquid seal be re-established after cooling.
