Abstract

A copy-receiving sheet, for use with a colour-reactive "carbon" paper (see Division D2) is coated with a composition comprising polyvinyl alcohol in aqueous solution, monomethyl tetrachlorophthalate, oxalic acid, ethyl alcohol and silicic acid.ALSO:Tetrakis - (4 - dimethylaminophenyl)-ethanediol is used in a colour-reactive "carbon" paper (see Division D2), since it reacts with acids to give intensely blue salts. Acids referred to are oxalic, sulphosalicylic, maleic, succinic, sulphamic, metasulphobenzoic and trichloracetic. In an example, the "carbon" coating comprises Brazil wax, dioctyl phthalate as softener and the diol.ALSO:A duplicating material comprises a transfer layer containing tetrakis-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-ethandiol. A typewriter ribbon may be impregnated with this material, or a duplicating sheet of paper may be coated with a mixture of this material with Brazil wax and dioctyl phthalate as a softener. These are used for making copies with copy-receiving sheets sensitized with an acid or acid-reacting substance to convert the diol to a blue-coloured salt. The acid may be oxalic, sulphozalicyclic, maelic, succinic, sulphamic, metasulphobenzoic, or trichloracetic acid. In Example 2, paper is coated with a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol in aqueous solution, monomethyl tetrachlorophthalate, oxalic acid, ethyl alcohol and silicic acid. Sheets bearing coatings of diol on one side, and of acid on the other may be interposed between a top sheet bearing diol and a bottom sheet bearing acid, with donor and receptor coatings facing one another throughout, so that when the top sheet is written upon copies are formed on all.
