Abstract
Hectographic process is based on the reaction of a colour former (I) with a dye acceptor (II) using a copying liquid. The colour carrier sheet is given a coating contg. one of the reactants, (I) or (II), and this is transferred to a master by pressure, then a copying liquid contg. the second reactant is used for transferring the copies onto uncoated or wax-coated copying paper. Pref. (I) is a phthalide (lactone), spiropyran, benzenedifuran, fluorane or a mixt. of these whilst (II) is a cpd. with free phenolic gps. Ordinary uncoated satinised copying paper can be used and the need for special coatings to give clean handling properties is eliminated. The use of (I) or (II) in the copying liquid makes the process simpler and more economical.
