Abstract

998,377. Textile treating apparatus. E. JUSTERS, [trading as EDUARD KUSTERS MASCHINENFABRIKJ. June 26,1964 [June 29, 1963], No. 26435/64. Heading D1L. A washing machine for washing wide webs of textile fabric, of the type in which the web 2 travels through the wash tank 1 in a substantially vertical zig-zag manner carried by rollers at different heights, the lower rollers 3 being immersed in the wash liquid which liquid enters the machine through an inlet 4 at the same end as the web 2 emerges therefrom and leaves through an outlet 5 at the same end as the web 2 enters the machine, and which is formed with a plurality of partitions 8 extending longitudinally of the tank 1 in the gaps between the rollers 3, is characterized in that the outlet 5 is arranged at a lower level than the upper edges 10 of the partitions 8 and lower openings 9a are formed adjacent the bottom of the tank 1 through the partitions 8 at alternate ends thereof. The inlet 4 is at a greater vertical height than the outlet 5 which is formed in a wall of the tank 1 so that liquid overflows through the outlet. The partitions 8 are arranged with spaces 9 at alternate ends thereof so that liquid flows through in the direction of the arrows 11, Fig. 2. A slide 12 is located in each space 9 and has a height less than that of the partition 8. The slide 12 is operable by a rod 13 so that a lower opening 9a, Fig. 3, or an upper opening 9b, Fig. 4 (not shown), is formed. Alternatively, the slide 12 may be in an intermediate position to form both upper and lower openings. The opening 9a allows heavy dirt to move towards the outlet 5 and the opening 9b permits lighter dirt carried by lather to move in this direction.
